Early access. Connecting AI apps is rolling out to GunCollector accounts. If the sign-in says connecting AI apps isn’t available for your account yet, it will be soon — nothing is wrong with your account.
1. What you can do
Once connected, Claude can read your collection and, with your approval, make changes. Some things to try:
- “How many 9mm rounds do I have, and where are they stored?”
- “Which of my rifles are due for cleaning?”
- “Log today’s range trip: 150 rounds of Blazer 9mm through the Glock 19 and 60 rounds of M193 through the DDM4.”
- “What’s my collection worth, and which items have no receipt or appraisal?”
- “Move every .22 LR ammo lot to the basement safe.”
Claude works from your real records, so the answers match what you see in GunCollector.
2. Connect in Claude (web, desktop and Cowork)
You add GunCollector once as a custom connector. It then works in Claude on the web, in the Claude desktop app, and in Cowork.
- In Claude, open Settings and go to Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector at the bottom of the list.
- Name it GunCollector and enter this address:
https://app.guncollector.app/mcp - Leave Advanced settings alone — GunCollector doesn’t need a client ID or secret. Choose Add.
- Choose Connect next to GunCollector. A GunCollector sign-in page opens.
- Sign in with your GunCollector email and password (or Google or Apple, if that’s how you signed up).
- Check the permission screen (see section 4), choose where you want to confirm changes, and choose Allow. You’re sent back to Claude.
To use it in a chat, choose the + button at the bottom left of the message box, open Connectors, and make sure GunCollector is switched on. Then just ask.
On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan? An owner of your Claude organization adds the custom connector once in the organization’s admin settings. After that, each person finds GunCollector under Connectors and chooses Connect to sign in to their own GunCollector account.
If you don’t see Add custom connector, your Claude plan or your organization’s settings may not allow custom connectors.
3. Connect in Claude Code
Claude Code is Anthropic’s command-line app. Add GunCollector from your terminal (PowerShell, Terminal or any shell):
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user guncollector https://app.guncollector.app/mcp
--scope user makes GunCollector available in every folder you use Claude Code in. Then:
- Start Claude Code with
claude. - Type
/mcp, pick guncollector, and choose Authenticate. Your web browser opens the GunCollector sign-in page. - Sign in and choose Allow on the permission screen. Because Claude Code runs on your computer, the screen says you’ll go back to Claude Code on this computer and asks you to continue only if you just started connecting it. That’s expected.
- Back in the terminal,
/mcpshows guncollector as connected. Ask, for example, “how many firearms do I have?”
To remove it later: claude mcp remove guncollector --scope user.
4. The GunCollector permission screen
Before anything is connected, GunCollector shows you exactly who is asking and what they’ll be able to do:
- Which app is asking, and the website that vouches for it — for Claude and Claude Code that’s claude.ai. Apps that registered themselves are marked unverified.
- Where you’ll be sent back to after you allow it.
- What it can do: read your collection (including serial numbers); add, change and delete records once you approve each change; and stay connected for up to 30 days of inactivity without signing in again.
- Where you confirm changes — in the app, or in GunCollector. See the next section.
If you see the wrong account, use Not you? to sign out and sign in again.
5. How changes are confirmed
Claude never changes your records on its own say-so. Every change needs your approval, and you choose where you give it, separately for each app:
- Confirm changes in Claude. Claude asks your permission before it uses a GunCollector tool that changes something, and the change is saved when you allow it. This is the quickest way to work.
- Confirm changes in GunCollector. Claude’s changes wait in GunCollector under Pending Actions until you confirm them there. Use this if you want to review every change in GunCollector itself.
“Always allow” means no prompt. If you tell Claude to always allow a GunCollector tool, it can make that kind of change without asking you each time. Only do that for changes you’re comfortable with.
Deleting 10 or more records at once always waits in Pending Actions, whichever option you chose.
Finding Pending Actions: on the web, a Pending badge appears in the menu bar when something is waiting; in the mobile app, go to More → Pending actions. Each proposal shows exactly what will change and which app proposed it. Confirm or cancel it there; anything you don’t act on expires after 24 hours.
6. What Claude can’t do
- No account or security changes. It can’t change your password, email, subscription or connected apps, or delete your account.
- No photo uploads. Add photos in the GunCollector app or on the web.
- Reloading data stays yours. A powder charge Claude records must match one already in your own records — it can’t invent load data or build a charge ladder from numbers that aren’t in your records. Published load data is shown as the publisher and a link to their data — the figures themselves stay in GunCollector.
- Fair-use limits. Up to 60 actions a minute and 2,000 a day per account. Claude tells you if you hit them.
7. Manage or disconnect
Every app you’ve connected is listed in GunCollector: on the web under Settings → Connected apps, and in the mobile app under More → Connected apps. For each one you can see when it was connected and last used, switch where you confirm changes, or choose Disconnect.
- Disconnecting is immediate. The app can’t read or change anything from that moment, and any of its changes still waiting in Pending Actions are cancelled.
- Changing your GunCollector password disconnects every app. Reconnect the ones you still want.
- You can also remove the connector in Claude (Settings → Connectors) or Claude Code (
claude mcp remove guncollector). That stops Claude using it; disconnecting in GunCollector is what revokes its access.
8. Your data
When you ask Claude something, the records it reads to answer leave GunCollector and go to Claude — and the AI behind it — under Anthropic’s own privacy policy and your Claude settings. That can include serial numbers, values and storage locations if your question needs them. GunCollector doesn’t receive your Claude conversations. We keep a log of which tools an app used, when, and whether it worked — never what you asked or the values involved — for 90 days. See our Privacy Policy for details.
9. Troubleshooting
- “Connecting AI apps isn’t available for this GunCollector account yet.” It’s still rolling out (see the note at the top), or it has been turned off for your account. Contact support if you think it should be on.
- “Sign-in method not linked.” You signed in with a method (for example Google) whose email already belongs to a GunCollector account that uses a password. Sign in the way you normally do in GunCollector, then connect again.
- “Already done” or “Sign-in didn’t finish.” The sign-in window was reloaded or used twice. If Claude shows GunCollector as connected, you’re fine — close the window. Otherwise, connect again from Claude.
- “This connection was revoked.” The app was disconnected in GunCollector, or your password changed. Reconnect it from Claude.
- Claude Code says “Please run /login”. That’s Claude Code’s own sign-in to your Claude account, not GunCollector. Run
/login; your GunCollector connection stays in place. - A change didn’t appear. Check Pending Actions — it may be waiting for you to confirm it there.
